Play Safety

Play is an essential part of childhood that promotes physical and cognitive development and contributes to the social and emotional wellbeing of children. It is a way for young children to learn and develop new skills while also reducing the risk of serious health conditions associated with physical inactivity and obesity. Similarly, as children get older, participation in sport and recreational activities offers benefits such as the development of self-esteem, peer socialisation and general fitness. All physical activity is associated with the risk of injury, and unfortunately, this can be a barrier to participation even though many of these injuries are preventable. The Play Safety Program includes a Playground Advisory Service, as well as education and resources to assist parents, carers, and professionals to keep children safe at play.

The Play Safety Service is supported by the WA Department of Health and is focused on promoting safety and preventing childhood injuries in Western Australia.
