Turning up the heat on burns prevention this National Burns Awareness Month

This June, Kidsafe WA teamed up with the Fiona Wood Foundation, Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), and the burns teams at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital to help families learn simple ways to highlight common burns risks in and around the home and how to prevent them.

Children have thinner skins than adults, which means burns can happen much more quickly. Across both hospitals, families had the chance to learn practical burn prevention and first aid tips related to everyday items like hair straighteners, hot water, cooking, treadmills and fire pits.

Our youngest visitors also enjoyed fun, hands-on activities, plus a special visit from Mars the Dog and Freddy the Fire Engine, thanks to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA.
